Producer and DJ Eddy D’Amato returns with ‘IDROFILIA’, a powerful Techno release on his newly launched label, MODVL. Fusing relentless energy with raw melodic depth, the track reflects his journey from underground roots to a refined, forward-thinking Techno sound.
Hi Eddy! How are you?
All good thanks!!
What was the initial spark or concept that set ‘IDROFILIA’ in motion?
The initial concept for ‘IDROFILIA’ comes from the physical phenomenon of hydrophilia, which refers to a substance’s affinity for attracting water. This scientific principle, along with its opposite, hydrophobia, not only inspired the track’s title but also provided the creative foundation for the first six cover artworks on my label, MODVL.
How does the title ‘IDROFILIA’ connect to the sonic identity of the track?
The track features various samples and sounds that evoke water and the phenomenon of hydrophilia. You need to pay attention to hear this.
The track blends relentless drive with heavy melodic weight; what production techniques or sound-design choices were key to achieving this balance?
I focused heavily on sound design and drew significant inspiration from the reference tracks I had selected.
What piece of gear, synth, or plugin were used for the creation of this track?
I used Serum 2 for the main synths and Arturia Mini V for the bass. CLA compressor on the dynamic side and FabFilter Q3 to equalize.
Did the track undergo major changes from its early demo version to the final master?
I would say no; there were no major changes. Just a few adjustments during the mixdown phase, especially regarding the balance of the elements.
How does ‘IDROFILIA’ reflect where you are artistically right now, compared to your previous releases?
I think the track is a step back compared to where I am now, simply because, artistically speaking, my latest unreleased productions have taken that step forward and fully represent the level I’m at today.
The song is released under your newly launched label. What motivated you to create MODVL, and what gap in the techno scene are you aiming to fill with this label?
Starting MODVL was definitely a major challenge and a significant change, as I transitioned from being an artist to also being a label owner, which brings a heavier load of tasks and responsibilities. However, my goal is to achieve results that position my label among the top labels in the Techno scene. I want to stand out in this regard, because MODVL isn’t just a label that releases music; it is backed by an artistic vision and a specialized team dedicated to the mission, which I believe distinguishes it from many other labels out there.
How would you describe the core identity of MODVL?
As I mentioned earlier, it’s not just a simple Techno label, but an artistic vision that unites music with art.
What can listeners expect from MODVL in next year?
Well, starting January, MODVL’s phase two will begin with a new theme no longer tied to hydrophobia or hydrophilia; it will be revealed in the coming weeks—so stay tuned—and will span the first three months of the new year.
What can fans expect from your upcoming releases?
New Techno bombs 😉
